Jason Kidd hopes to find a spark in the sixth-man role for the Dallas Mavericks moving forward in the 2024-25 season.
To this point, he's still working through the options, but attempting to find a player capable of making an impact in that position, similar to what Jason Terry did for Dallas years ago, will be a tough task.
Terry, who won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year award with the Mavericks in 2009, averaged 19.6 points, 3.4 assists and 2.4 rebounds over 33-plus minutes that year. But it seems that Kidd has an intriguing possible option for this year's sixth-man role, although the move would bring a different impact than the one Terry did.
As Mike Curtis of the Dallas Morning News revealed, Kidd cited Dereck Lively as an option:
“He could be Jason Terry in a different light," Kidd said of Lively.
Lively is an interesting name to monitor, and he's played well off the bench for the Mavericks this season. In five games, he's averaged 9.8 points on 73.9% shooting, 8.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.0 blocks and 1.3 steals per game.
Lively's scoring, rebounding, assists and steals are all up from last season, albeit in a small sample size. With the Mavericks boasting Daniel Gafford and Lively down low, it could go a long way for the Mavericks' second unit if the latter can continue to make a higher impact.
