The Detroit Pistons recently faced off against the Dallas Mavericks.
What should have been an easy win for the Detroit Pistons turned out to be a nail-biting matchup as they suffered a 116-114 OT loss against the Dallas Mavericks.
As a result, the Pistons have dropped to a 21-6 record. While they remain the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference, it was still a surprising result.
But what wasn’t surprising? It was the performance of Pistons superstar Cade Cunningham.
Cunningham contributed 29 points, 10 rebounds, and 9 assists to the Pistons’ final tally in the two-point defeat.
Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd was thoroughly impressed by Cunningham’s performance as he claimed the Pistons star is already on the level of Nikola Jokic and Luka Doncic.
“He is playing at MVP [level]. He should be considered one of the, if not the MVP right now, because he’s playing at a high level.
“He should be mentioned with the Lukas and the Jokers, those guys. Just understanding that he’s playing at that level right now,” Kidd stated.
Doncic and Jokic are viewed as among the top five NBA players in the league right now. While Cunningham is yet to perform at that level in the postseason, Kidd is certain he’s on that level.
This season, the Pistons look all set to make some noise in the East come playoff time, and it wouldn’t have been possible without Cunningham.
Right now, Cade is averaging 27.2 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 9.2 assists per game while leading the Pistons to the best record in their conference.
As a result, Cunningham has managed to secure a place in the NBA MVP ladder. As of now, he ranks fourth, only behind Jokic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Doncic.
While it’s great to see coach Kidd giving a shout-out to Cunningham, the NBA has already taken notice of Cade’s ascension to stardom.
