Jaylen Brown And Kysre Gondrezick Stole Everybody's Attention At ESPY’s Red Carpet
Peter Casey-USA TODAY Sports

Jaylen Brown made headlines at the 2024 ESPY Awards' red carpet, as he walked out with former WNBA star Kysre Gondrezick as his date for the evening. Gondrezick last played for the Chicago Sky, before being released recently. The duo appeared happy as they walked arm-in-arm across the red carpet.

Brown had a great night at the award ceremony. He also showed up to the red carpet with another stunning date - the Larry O'Brien trophy, as he and members of the Celtics organization took pictures with the trophy, continuing to celebrate their incredible championship achievement.

On top of that, he was awarded the ESPY for the best championship performance, for his strong showing in the 2024 NBA Finals. While the NBA Finals MVP was a very rewarding accomplishment for Brown, he isn't likely to turn down the prestigious honor from ESPN.

Brown had a great showing during the NBA Finals, as he led the Celtics to the NBA championship. During the Finals, Brown averaged 20.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.0 assists. He stepped up in a big way for the Celtics, especially as his superstar teammate, Jayson Tatum, struggled under the bright lights of the playoffs.

The Celtics will be looking to go back-to-back, as they attempt to win the NBA championship once again. They may face some challenges, as teams like the Knicks and the 76ers have bolstered their squad to make the Eastern Conference far more competitive.

Jaylen Brown Comments On Team USA During ESPY Awards

Jaylen Brown was asked by NFL legend Cam Newton about Team USA and his absence from the squad. Brown tried to be glib, but when Newton pressed him a little bit more, Brown refused to make a comment and joked that he was focusing on his date for the night.

Newton: “How do you feel about the USA Team right now bro?”

Brown: “What do you mean?”

Newton: “Why aren’t you there? Do you feel a way?”

Brown: “I ain't really got no comment. I got my beautiful date right there.”

Team USA's Grant Hill spoke about the selection process for the squad and said that Brown's exclusion was not intentional, and he did what was best for the team.

Brown, on the other hand, seems to think that he was excluded because of his allegiance to Adidas, the rivals of Nike, who provide the athletic gear for Team USA, and hinted as such.

There have been some questions as to why he wasn't selected to represent the team. Especially in the wake of Kawhi Leonard's abrupt departure from the squad, many felt that Brown would be the perfect candidate to replace Leonard.

Instead, Team USA called up his Celtics teammate Derrick White instead. White, it could be argued, is the better fit for what they need, as he is more suited to playing well without needing the ball in his hands. Whereas Brown, as a superstar, plays best when he has the ball in his hands.

Brown shouldn't be too bothered by the snub, as he proved that he is one of the best performers in the NBA, and achieved his championship dreams this year. A snub from Team USA will hurt, but he has a lot going for him in his career.
