Jaylen Brown Announces Personal News Before NBA Season

Jaylen Brown has been a core member of the Boston Celtics since being selected in the 2016 NBA Draft. Now entering his tenth season with the franchise, Brown has cemented his place in Celtics history. He earned both Eastern Conference and NBA Finals MVP honors during Boston’s 2024 championship run and has been selected to four All-Star Games and one All-NBA team.

The 28-year-old wing has primarily served as a secondary scoring option alongside Jayson Tatum, but with Tatum’s return uncertain this season due to a ruptured Achilles, Brown is expected to take over as the focal point of the offense. Last season, Brown averaged 22.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.2 steals while shooting 46.3% from the field and 32.4% from deep. His field goal attempts declined for a third straight year, largely due to the depth of offensive talent Boston showcased last season. However, that trend is expected to reverse this year following significant roster turnover.

As Brown prepares for a heavier workload in Boston, the star guard received a prestigious honor. October 24, Brown’s birthday, has officially been named “Jaylen Brown Day” in the city of Boston. Brown thanked the mayor of Boston, Michelle Wu, in his post on Instagram along with the city council.

“It’s official October 24th is Jaylen Brown Day in Boston thank you to @mayorwu and the council special thanks to my brothers @juicethegod and @_familyfirst_rp for helping me navigate the city ✊ 10/24 make sure you look a kid in the eye tell them you believe in them Plenty of more work to do let’s all contribute more of our time to our community and to society,” Brown wrote on Tuesday.

Brown’s recognition from the city of Boston highlights his impact both on and off the court. The proclamation of October 24 as “Jaylen Brown Day” not only honors his achievements with the Celtics but also celebrates his ongoing commitment to community development and youth empowerment. As he steps into a larger role this season, the timing of the honor reflects the city’s appreciation for his character.

Through his 7uice Foundation, Brown has worked to address systemic barriers that affect access to education, economic opportunity and wellness. As the foundation states, its work is “centered on the premise that history has created entrenched barriers to educational opportunity, socio-economic mobility and access to health and wellness for marginalized communities.”

Alongside initiatives like the Bridge Program, a multi-day immersive experience designed for middle and high school students, Brown remains committed to supporting the growth and development of Boston’s youth. The annual celebration now serves as a reminder of his lasting impact on the city.
