Jaylen Brown’s ‘disappointing’ take on end of Celtics tenure

The Boston Celtics are hoping to prove their skeptics wrong heading into the 2026-27 NBA season, which is just over a month away. The Celtics shocked fans this offseason by trading Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers in a move that brought back Paul George and draft picks.

The move came just months after Brown led the Celtics to defy expectations by securing the second seed in the Eastern Conference despite star Jayson Tatum missing most of the season.

Recently, Brown kept it real about the ugly end to his Boston tenure, as well as his optimism for his time in Philadelphia.

“Obviously it was disappointing, to some degree, in terms of how things transpired at the end in Boston. But I’m also very excited for the opportunity. You know, I’m more focused on that excitement. The past is the past,” he said, per David Katz of The Hollywood Reporter.

Brown had become a fan favorite in Boston over the decade he spent with the organization, winning the 2024 NBA Finals MVP and Conference Finals MVP awards as the Celtics hoisted their first championship since 2008.

However, this offseason, rumblings emerged about how some in the front office thought that Brown’s true impact on the court wasn’t as immense as his impressive stats might suggest, as well as whether or not he would be discontent sliding back into a secondary role behind Tatum, who returned at the end of the season.

This resulted in Brown being dealt to the 76ers, where he will now be paired up with LeBron James, Tyrese Maxey, and other high-profile stars.
