Jeff Teague claims that Jayson Tatum and Tyrese Haliburton are recovering in very different ways ahead of the new season.
The NBA was dealt a massive blow during last year’s playoffs when two of its brightest stars went down with season-ending injuries.
In the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs, Jayson Tatum suffered an Achilles tear, thus ending his hopes for the 2025-26 NBA season.
Things got even worse in the 2025 NBA Finals, when Tyrese Haliburton tore his Achilles tendon during Game 7 against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Both stars are currently recovering and are expected to miss the 2025-26 NBA season in its entirety. However, Jeff Teague believes the two players are healing differently.
Jeff Teague spoke on his podcast about the recent clip of Jayson Tatum working out while recovering from his Achilles injury.
Teague predicted that Tatum is healing brilliantly and will return to the Celtics by February of 2026. However, he doesn’t think the same can be said for Tyrese Haliburton, who is still hobbling.
“That’s crazy. My boy is playing. Do y’all think he’s going to play this year? Doing that, I’ll say he’ll play by… I’m giving him until February. I think he makes a return in February.
“I’ve seen Tyrese walking, and he was [hobbling]. He’s not playing anytime soon. To see [Tatum], something is not right.”
While Jayson Tatum is recovering at a faster rate, the Boston Celtics cannot get ahead of themselves too quickly.
Should Tatum get healthy, the Celtics should take every measure and precaution to ensure that he isn’t rushing back.
If they don’t, Tatum could be risking a potential injury, perhaps one even more severe than the previous Achilles tear.
Tatum is the Celtics’ best player, and the team cannot afford to take any chances with his career and his future.
