Jeremy Lin reveals what would surprise him about Wizards

The Washington Wizards have assembled quite the talented core, although being good on paper doesn’t automatically translate to wins on the basketball court. Nonetheless, there is considerable excitement surrounding the Wizards heading into the 2026-27 campaign, with Jeremy Lin already placing lofty expectations for a team that finished with a 17-65 record last season.

During the Wizards’ 108-94 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers during Wednesday’s Summer League action, Lin and Kenny “The Jet” Smith talked about Washington’s chances of making it to the playoffs with a revamped roster. Lin said that he would be stunned if the Wizards aren’t good enough to make it to the play-in tournament at the very least.

“I’d be surprised if they’re not play-in at least,” Lin said during ESPN’s broadcast of the Wizards-Clippers game, via SleeperWizards on X.

The Eastern Conference is far from a cakewalk, but considering the veteran additions the Wizards made, anything short of a play-in berth would be a disaster. Heck, even that would be disappointing, as the presence of Trae Young and Anthony Davis to give Washington a star duo to build their young team around should make them good enough to make it to the playoffs outright as one of the conference’s top-six seeds.

Adding in the fact that the Wizards have AJ Dybantsa, Kyshawn George, and Alex Sarr to potentially round out the starting five, with the likes of Bilal Coulibaly, Tre Johnson, Will Riley, and Bub Carrington off the bench, not to mention veteran pieces such as Khris Middleton and Deandre Ayton, Washington has the top-shelf talent and the depth to thrive.

But make no mistake about it, the Wizards should still have their work cut out for them, especially when the Indiana Pacers will be looking to contend yet again, the Toronto Raptors and Miami Heat added Kawhi Leonard and Giannis Antetokounmpo, respectively, and only three teams in the East look like locks to miss the playoffs (Bucks, Nets, Bulls).
