Jevon Carter beams positivity despite limited playing time this season: "I'm blessed to be here"

It can be hard on any NBA player to go through DNP (did not play) designations, especially after they’re coming off a season wherein they were a key cog of a team with title aspirations. However, that is what guard Jevon Carter is going through in his first season playing for his hometown Chicago Bulls.

Despite the meager playing time, Carter is beaming with positivity and gratitude and is staying ready for when his number is called.

Two DNPs last week

Carter was a vital piece of the Milwaukee Bucks rotation last season. He averaged 8.0 points and shot 42 percent from long distances, establishing himself as a reliable microwave scorer in the NBA. He eventually signed a three-year deal with the Bulls last summer, and many believed he would take over the starting point guard slot.

Things didn’t play out that way; Coby White assumed the starting role and has been spectacular. Meanwhile, Carter has been relegated to the end of the bench, even getting two straight DNPs last week.

For a player who is used to playing meaningful minutes and having a significant impact on the game, this adjustment has been challenging for Carter. However, he remains positive and focused on improving each day.

“Get in here. Work on your game. Trust in yourself. Have confidence,” Carter said.

“And go out there and trust in your work.”

Grateful to be in the NBA

Carter is now playing in his fifth team in six seasons in the big leagues. He’s experienced the highs and lows of the NBA, so he knows the value of staying grateful and humble. Despite his current situation, Carter understands that being in the NBA is a privilege and remains thankful for the opportunity.

“In and out of the rotation, that don’t really mean nothing to me. I’m in the NBA. I’m blessed to be here. I’m ready whenever my name is called. Whether that’s for 82 games or two games, that really don’t matter. I’m ready whenever,” Carter shared.

“Where I come from. I didn’t grow up like this. I’ve just been blessed to live like this the last six years of my life. Every other day of my life has been a struggle. This is nothing.”
