The Miami Heat (20-19) are set to host the Denver Nuggets (24-16) on Friday night, marking Jimmy Butler's return after serving a seven-game suspension. The suspension came as a result of multiple instances where his comments and remarks were deemed detrimental to the team, violating the organization's conduct policy.
Butler's suspension came after a public outburst in which he made it clear that he wanted to be traded and was open to joining any team willing to acquire him. He expressed that he wanted to rediscover his joy for playing basketball, and when a reporter asked if that joy could be restored in Miami, Butler responded, "probably not."
His relationship with team president Pat Riley soured after Riley's remark, "If you're not on the court playing, you should probably keep your mouth shut," which followed the Heat's postseason defeat to the Boston Celtics last season, during which Butler was sidelined and made a controversial comment.
While it remains plausible that Jimmy Butler will be traded at some point in the near future, as neither side has found common ground, the star forward issued a brief two-word statement ahead of his return against the Nuggets.
The message, delivered through Butler’s agent Bernie Lee, came in response to questions about his future career plans. Butler simply said, “I’m back.”

This season, Butler has played in just 22 games, averaging 17.6 points per game. While he still has a lot to offer on the court, particularly given his accomplishments in Miami—including an NBA Finals appearance—his relationship with the team appears to be beyond repair.
According to an ESPN report, a source within the Heat organization has indicated that they don't want Butler to return even with his suspension ending.
We don't want him back," one source told ESPN. "I don't know how he can come back to this locker room," another source added.
