The Los Angeles Lakers (15-5) will look to recover from their loss to the Phoenix Suns when they travel north to face the Toronto Raptors (15-7) on Thursday, but they will be without their best player. Luka Doncic has been ruled out due to personal reasons, leaving Los Angeles without the league’s leading scorer.
The five-time All-star has been the Lakers’ most dominant force this season, averaging 35.3 points (47.8% FG), 8.9 rebounds and 8.9 assists while driving their early success. His absence significantly reshapes the matchup against a Raptors team that holds the second-best record in the Eastern Conference.
Hours before the game, head coach JJ Redick provided the latest update on Doncic’s status, noting the Lakers are hopeful he will return soon but have no firm timetable.
“Obviously, he’s away from the team for personal reasons,” Redick said. “We don’t have a pinpointed day yet,” per Bleacher Report’s Khobi Price.
Without him, LA will lean heavily on LeBron James , Austin Reaves, and DeAndre Ayton to stabilize the offense.

Reaves has been one of the few bright spots this season, producing the best numbers of his career with 28.1 points and 6.6 assists per game. His ability to generate offense off the dribble will be essential as the Lakers adjust without their primary creator.
Ayton remains the team’s main interior presence, averaging 15.8 points and 8.6 rebounds. He will be relied upon to provide second-chance opportunities and help offset Toronto’s size. Meanwhile, James enters the matchup averaging 15.2 points, 7.2 assists and 4.0 rebounds, enduring one of the most inconsistent offensive stretches of his career. Though his scoring has dipped, he will hope to improve his impressive record against the Raptors, the team he holds the best win record against (58-18).
Thursday’s contest begins a difficult three-game road trip for Los Angeles. After facing Toronto, the Lakers will visit the Boston Celtics for the second leg of a back-to-back on Friday before closing the trip Sunday against the Philadelphia 76ers.
With Doncic unavailable at least for the opener of the swing, the Lakers will rely on James, Reaves, Ayton, and their supporting cast to keep them competitive as they await further clarity on when their MVP candidate will rejoin the lineup.
