JJ Redick Storms Out Of Press Conference After Criticizing Lakers Players Except LeBron James

JJ Redick did not hold back on his Lakers players after their poor performance against the Grizzlies. After the 131-114 loss to the Grizzlies, Reddick gave praise to LeBron James, marveling at the fact that James played the hardest out of all the players despite being close to 40 years old. When asked later about how he would address that with the rest of the squad, Redick gave a simple answer before storming out.

"I think LeBron was fantastic tonight. The biggest thing that stood out... he played hard. He's almost 40 years old and he played the hardest on our team. It says a lot about him."

Redick did speak on a number of issues during the post-game press conference, which you can check out below.

On the Lakers' poor shooting night (41-93 FG - 44.1%, 15-48 3PT - 31.3%):

"We generated good shots. There's always going to be a couple of ill-advised (shots) in a game. We got good looks in the first half. Really felt like if we executed the gameplan stuff and made a couple of threes, we probably could flip-flop that to where we have a 10-ish point lead in the first half."

Introducing Cam Reddish (15 PTS, 6 REB) into the Lakers' rotation:

"I thought with [Cam Reddish], it goes back to what we are asking you to do, the role that is going to help the team. In both games, there was a real intentionality from Cam for what we asked him to do. I plan on playing him on Friday."

On Christian Koloko's (2 PTS, 2 REB) debut and role on the team:

"He [Christian Koloko] is our third big. AD was out, but I thought Christian, getting on a plane, flying across the country, first game, he's only had 5-6 days with the South Bay Lakers, and he was really good."

Biggest takeaway from road trip:

"Goes back to choices. It's something that we discussed as a group, and you have a choice every night for how you play. It has nothing to do with making shots. There's gotta be a group of people, 7-8 guys that make that choice, and we're a really good basketball team. We have 2-3, we're not going to be a good basketball team that night. That's just the reality. That's my biggest takeaway."

On The Lakers' struggles from the field:

"I can't speak to them. I can't put myself in their brains. I don't think there's ever been a basketball player that stepped on a floor and said 'Man, I really hope I miss all my shots tonight, or I struggle shooting'. It's tough to go through it. It's tough to have a bad shooting night, and when that starts compounding, that can really start to weigh on you..."

You could tell just how frustrated Redick was about the loss and the poor performance from the team, despite him defending his players. It is clear that Redick wants the rest of his stars to start performing at a higher level, as their season really depends on it.

Bad Performance From Lakers Stars

The Los Angeles Lakers had a poor outing last night, with almost all of the players performing poorly. In the absence of Anthony Davis, LeBron James stepped up last night, and delivered a great performance, putting up 39 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and one steal on 15-24 shooting from the field, 6-11 from the three-point line, and 3-4 from the free-throw line.

D'Angelo Russell was benched late in the game despite starting, playing just 22 minutes and putting up 12 points, one rebound, three assists, and steals while shooting 4-12 from the field, 2-9 from beyond the arc, and 2-2 from the stripe. JJ Redick explained after the game why he benched him, indicating he wasn't happy with his performance.

Austin Reaves did put up a respectable 19 points, along with three rebounds, five assists, and three steals, but shot poorly, going just 7-17 from the field, 2-9 from deep, and 3-4 from the free-throw line.

The Lakers will have the chance to return home after a long road trip and try and recalibrate. With their next game coming this Friday against the 76ers, they have just a day's time to try and understand where things went wrong. They have a chance to capitalize against a weak 76ers team and pick up an all-important, momentum-boosting win this Friday.
