Is Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid embracing a new nickname? Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

A hilarious gaffe by a “Jeopardy!” contestant related to Joel Embiid’s nickname not only elicited a reaction by the Philadelphia 76ers star, but it also inspired him to jokingly update his Twitter handle.

During Wednesday’s broadcast of the long-running, iconic game show, a contestant named Paul selected a clue from the “Current Sports Nicknames” category for $1,000. The answer was “Joel Embiid in 2019 won the trademark for this nickname of his that also describes the 76ers’ strategy of improving the team.”

Paul’s question? “What is ‘Do a 180'?”

Embiid’s nickname is of course “The Process,” a reference to onetime 76ers general manager Sam Hinkie’s credo about frustrated fans having to “Trust the Process” he set in motion back in 2013 amid a massive rebuild.

Paul’s response understandably inspired whimsical mockery from sports fans on Twitter, but it was Embiid’s reaction to the “Jeopardy!” goof that takes the top prize.

As a result of the mistakenly applied moniker, Embiid changed his Twitter handle to incorporate it. For now, the Sixers star will be known on Twitter as “Joel ‘Do a 180′ Embiid???’

Embiid boasts one of the most gregarious personalities of any player in the NBA at this time, so it’s no surprise how he reacted to poor Paul’s nationally televised whiff.
