John Wall Open to Joining Eastern Conference Team

Wall last played in the NBA for the Los Angeles Clippers during the 2023-24 season. In 34 games, the Kentucky alum averaged 11.4 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game.

A few months ago, Wall expressed his desire to return to the NBA:

“I love the game, I still get up every morning at 6 am, [I] work out. I’m still dedicated to getting back in, I think something will happen soon. For me, I still love the grind, I still love to get up and put the work in,” he said. “You just saw me work out for an hour, hour-thirty. No matter what, I still love the game. If I still have the hunger and desire to be [in the NBA], I’ll continue to chase my dream to get back in. It’s just being patient, staying ready, and just letting God do his work, and being ready whenever your name is called.”

Can John Wall Provide a Boost for the Miami Heat?

In short, probably not. Wall is currently 33 years old and has not played 41 or fewer games every year since the 2017-18 season. This includes missing the entirety of the 2019-20 season due to injury and the 2021-22 season due to a sit-out. Although he was a solid bench guard for the Clippers last season, it’s evident he is not the same Wall. Wall’s defense and athleticism have taken a massive hit over the last several years. Plus, the Heat are simply not in need of another guard. Currently, Miami has five primary guards rostered. This includes Terry Rozier, Patty Mills, and Delon Wright, who were all acquired during the season. Even if Wall is open to joining the Heat, it wouldn’t make a ton of sense for the Heat to actually bring him in.

Who Else Could Have Interest in Wall?

Since the last time he stepped foot on an NBA court, things have been quiet for Wall. However, in July 2023, Wall held a workout. Multiple teams were reported to be in attendance, including the Portland Trail Blazers and Boston Celtics. Since then, the Trail Blazers and Celtics filled a veteran guard void via a trade with each other, funny enough. Portland landed Malcolm Brogdon, and Boston traded for Jrue Holiday. Other than attending Wall’s workout, no further reports suggested these two teams had shown interest in him. As it stands, it does not appear an NBA return is in the cards for Wall.

Wall was a fantastic and exciting player to watch in his prime. Though it seems unlikely, it would be fun to see Wall in the NBA again to fight for a championship. Regardless, Wall has had a successful NBA career up to this point. We shall see if anything comes to fruition for Wall in his quest to return to the NBA.
