John Wall has retired from the NBA and will begin his post-playing career as an analyst with Amazon Prime Video.

Wall told The Washington Post’s Michael Lee that while he felt he still had “a lot left in my tank” as a player, he is looking forward to sharing his basketball knowledge with fans. His role will begin this fall as part of Amazon’s first season as an NBA broadcaster.

“If you never really had the opportunity to sit down and talk to me, you won’t really understand how much I love basketball, where my basketball mind is at, where my IQ is,” Wall said. “I can basically tell you the best player in the country — from girls to boys, high school, to the players that’s in college, to the people that’s at the NBA and WNBA.”

Amazon will broadcast games on Friday nights through December, then expand to Thursday and Saturday coverage later in the season. The streaming service will also carry the knockout rounds of the NBA Cup.

The studio team will include Blake Griffin, Dirk Nowitzki and Wall, hosted by Taylor Rooks. Additional analysts include Dwyane Wade, Steve Nash, Candace Parker , Stan Van Gundy, Dell Curry, Brent Barry and Udonis Haslem.

Wall, 34, said he had hoped to finish his career with the Washington Wizards and one day see his No. 2 jersey retired. He also reflected on the injuries that shortened his career.

“People think, ‘Oh, he got the money, he’s set for life, he don’t care,’” Wall said. “No, I would give up all the money to play basketball and never deal with none of those injuries. I didn’t play the game of basketball for money.

“I played the game of basketball because I love it. I was itching to get back to play. I wasn’t itching to sit on the sideline and collect the check. The check don’t mean anything.”
