Johnny Furphy Goes To Toronto In Latest Mock Draft
Michael C. Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

The Toronto Raptors are set to pick No. 19 and No. 31 in the 2024 NBA Draft.

The team will have a couple of chances to add a nice prospect who can grow with their current core.

Mock drafts have been coming out daily and there is beginning to be a common theme of the type of prospect the Raptors will take.

There’s no denying that the Raptors need help in a lot of areas. One of those areas is their shooting from deep. The Raptors were one of the worst three-point shooting teams in the league this past season.

In Gary Parrish’s latest mock draft for CBS Sports he has the Raptors taking an intriguing young shooting talent in Johnny Furphy of Kansas at No. 19:

“Toronto ranked 27th out of 30 teams in 3-point field-goal percentage this season, which is something Furphy could improve in time. The 6-8 guard is young and a work in progress but undeniably talented and a sensible option for a Toronto franchise rebuilding.”

This would make the second straight year where the Raptors drafted a player from Kansas. Toronto took Gradey Dick No. 13 in the 2023 NBA Draft. This could feel like a redundant pick given the team just drafted pick, but the Raptors clearly need more shooting.

Once Furphy became a starter at Kansas he flourished. He proceeded to average 11.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.1 steals while knocking down 35.4 percent of 4.4 three-point attempts per game in 32.7 minutes of action across the Jayhawks’ final 18 games of the season.

Furphy’s three-point attempts accounted for 61.2 percent of his shots. However, Furphy did knock down 74.2 percent of 66 attempts around the basket — ranking in the 96th percentile nationwide per NBA.com.

Murphy also knocked down 36.4 percent of 118 catch-and-shoot threes. The 19-year-old has yet to show he can be a movement shooter so he is a work in progress.
