Jonathan Kuminga absent as Jimmy Butler leads Warriors’ offseason mini-camp

The Golden State Warriors have had to deal with the ongoing saga of what to do with Jonathan Kuminga all summer long. Golden State is clearly on the fence about giving Kuminga a bigger contract, as they are unsure of his fit on the team.

This has certainly rubbed Kuminga the wrong way, and he’s distancing himself from his teammates. Jimmy Butler, who was traded to the Warriors during the middle of last season, recently hosted a team mini-camp, to which Kuminga did not show up.

“Jimmy Butler is actually holding a team function, a team mini-camp in San Diego this week,” Shams Charania said on NBA Today. “This is the first full year of Curry, Green, and Butler all together. The only player who is not there is restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga. My understanding is he is not appearing at this team function and is still at a stalemate.”

At this point, the Warriors may be better off trading Kuminga for a solid role player who is willing to play. Ultimately, Golden State needs to make a decision soon before Kuminga becomes a bigger distraction during the 2025-26 NBA season.
