Atlanta Hawks forward Jonathan Kuminga has yet to play for his new team this 2025-26 season due to his knee injury. Unfortunately for fans, they will have to wait a bit more to finally see him in action.
Kuminga was traded to the Hawks from the Golden State Warriors prior to the Feb. 5 deadline. Atlanta sent Kristaps Porzingis to Golden State in the deal, getting Kuminga and veteran sharpshooter Buddy Hield in return.
However, Kuminga was already injured when he was dealt to Atlanta. He last played on Jan. 22 against the Dallas Mavericks before being sidelined with a bone bruise in his left knee.
Prior to the All-Star break, the Hawks announced that they will be re-evaluating Kuminga afterward to determine his status moving forward.
On Wednesday, the team shared its latest update, revealing that the 23-year-old will need at least one more week. The good news is that Kuminga is making strides in his recovery and rehabilitation.
"Forward Jonathan Kuminga, who sustained a left knee bone bruise while playing for Golden State at Dallas on Jan. 22, is progressing in his rehabilitation," the Hawks wrote on X.
"He will be re-evaluated in approximately one week, and an update will be provided at that time."

Kuminga has career averages of 12.5 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists in five seasons with the Warriors. The seventh overall pick of the 2021 NBA Draft was supposed to lead the next generation of Golden State, but he never really had the opportunity to develop for a team that is aiming to compete for a championship with Steph Curry.
Kuminga had grown dissatisfied with his role with the Warriors and the lack of development opportunities, leading him to demand a trade.
The Dubs eventually sent him to Atlanta, where he should have a more prominent role alongside All-Star forward Jalen Johnson. Both players are part of the same draft class, and considering their age, they are on a similar timeline that positions the Hawks to build around them.
For now, Hawks fans can only wait to see Kuminga and Johnson on the court together. The team returns to action against the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday. They also play the Miami Heat, Brooklyn Nets and Washington Wizards through next Wednesday.
Kuminga's next chance to return will be against the Wizards again on Feb. 26 or against the Portland Trail Blazers on March 1.
