Jrue Holiday Drawing Strong League-Wide Interest as Trade Buzz Builds

Get an NBA player on the trade block, and you’ll find the Portland Trail Blazers linking almost immediately. Though after early March shopping this year, the franchise is entertaining a strong link-up around veteran Jrue Holiday.

According to reports from league insider Jake Fischer, Portland is expected to “field plenty of external trade interest” in the coming weeks and months. While the two-time champion reportedly prefers to stay and continue building with the franchise, the reality of the NBA’s business side suggests a different outcome could be just next door.

But that doesn’t mean the two-time NBA champion’s situation is plain and simple. On one hand, he remains one of the most respected perimeter defenders in the league. On the other hand, he turns 36 soon and carries a sizable contract that weighs roughly $34.8 million annually over the next two seasons, with a player option beyond that.

However, Portland’s 2025-26 campaign marked a turning point. A playoff appearance and competitive first-round showing gave hope that the rebuild is ahead of schedule.

With young pieces like Scoot Henderson and Shaedon Sharpe continuing to demand larger roles, plus the expected return of Damian Lillard, the backcourt rotation is becoming increasingly crowded.

And that creates a strategic dilemma. They could either keep a veteran leader who raises the floor, or cash in on his value while it remains high.

Teams across the league are already monitoring the situation closely. The Utah Jazz, for instance, profile as a logical suitor given their need for defense and secondary playmaking.

Would trading Jrue Holiday help the Portland Trail Blazers?

The Trail Blazers face a defining offseason decision around Jrue Holiday, as league-wide trade interest continues to build.

From a roster-building standpoint, the argument to move him is clear. However, trading him isn’t without risk. Holiday played a key role in Portland’s playoff return, providing defensive stability and leadership.

His ability to adapt to different roles helped bring structure to a young team while also accelerating the backcourt’s growth.

Additionally, he has openly expressed his desire to stay and build in Portland while mentioning that getting traded is not something he likes, like most other players

But if the Trail Blazers prioritize long-term flexibility, a trade makes sense. If they aim to stay competitive while developing, keeping him remains the smarter option.
