Jrue Holiday hypes up his new Celtics teammate

Jrue Holiday is already endearing himself to Boston Celtics fans. The All-Star guard joined the franchise on Sunday. Boston expects Holiday to help plug the gap left by Marcus Smart, who was sent to the Memphis Grizzlies earlier this summer.

When speaking to the media on Wednesday, Holiday discussed Jaylen Brown's recent comments on his addition. The veteran guard noted how Brown is "one of the best players" he's played against throughout his NBA career.

"I feel like he knows my competitive nature," Holiday said. "He knows I don't back down from anybody ... I appreciate him saying that because, honestly, he's one of the best players I've played against in my life. One of the hardest ones to guard."

Brown had praised Holiday's competitive nature and two-way skillset during a media day press conference on Monday, describing his new teammate as an "assassin."

Unlike his previous stop with the Milwaukee Bucks, Holiday won't be expected to carry a significant offensive load for the Celtics. Instead, Holiday will be expected to play elite-level defense and fill gaps on offense, likely as a playmaker.

The Celtics now have four All-Stars in their starting five. Arguably, the franchise also has the most talented six or seven man rotation in the league. Nevertheless, this is still Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown's team. Those two are expected to assume leadership roles next season and will be the primary offensive threats for Joe Mazzulla.

Holiday is also a natural leader. He also has championship experience. Boston has rebuilt their roster this summer and appears to be stronger for it. However, Holiday and his new teammates may take a while to adapt to each other's tendencies. No amount of talent can fast-track familiarity.

Boston are championship favorites. However, they must remember that championships aren't won or lost in October and November. Building slowly will be the key for Mazzulla's team, rather than their hot start last season.
