The Boston Celtics are clearly going through a rebuild, and it all started with the trade of Jrue Holiday to the Portland Trail Blazers, which has left the two-time NBA champion angry.
The Celtics acquired Anfernee Simons from Portland. This is Boston’s attempt to get younger as Holiday is 35 while Simons is 26 years old.
After the trade went down, it’s been reported by Steve Bulpett of Heavy that Holiday is angry.
“Now, if he winds up staying there, I’m sure he’ll be the professional he’s always been and make a positive contribution,” Bulpett said. “But he’s not happy with this deal. I’ll be surprised if Portland doesn’t move him on if they can. Right now, he does not want to go there.
“I’m sure if he has to go to Portland, he’ll end up going and it’ll be okay, but right now they want to be somewhere else. But with that contract, it’s not going to be that easy.”
Holiday is right to be upset. Most 35-year-old veterans do not want to start over on a young, rebuilding team.
Still, Holiday is a professional. If he’s on the roster at the start of the season, Holiday will suit up wearing a Trail Blazers uniform.
