Julius Randle is expected to sign a three-year, $100 million contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Randle, 30, averaged 18.7 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game, along with a 48.5% field goal percentage, during the 2024-25 NBA regular season. Read on for further details surrounding Randle’s new contract that will keep in Minneapolis for at least three more years.
Julius Randle is set to sign a three-year, $100 million contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Randle’s contract will feature a 2027-28 player option. ESPN’s Shams Charania broke the news on X, formerly Twitter, on Sunday. Charania, 31, wrote, “BREAKING: Three-time NBA All-Star Julius Randle intends to sign a new three-year, $100 million deal to stay with the Minnesota Timberwolves, sources tell ESPN. The deal includes a player option for the 2027-28 season.”
The writing seemed to be on the wall for the Timberwolves’ move. NBA insider Jake Fischer previously reported the expectation was the Timberwolves would give Randle a long-term deal after it agreed to one with Naz Reid.
Julius Randle’s contract signals residential and financial stability in Minneapolis. Randle became a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves on October 2, 2024, alongside Donte DiVincenzo as part of a three-team trade with the Charlotte Hornets that sent Karl-Anthony Towns to the New York Knicks.
Randle previously had a player option for the 2025-26 season, meaning it could’ve been a one-year addition for the Timberwolves without this new contract. Now, Randle can chase NBA titles with Anthony Edwards for the time being.
Julius Randle previously played for the Los Angeles Lakers and New Orleans Pelicans but took significant strides with the New York Knicks. Randle made the All-Star Game in three of his five seasons in New York and was an All-NBA selection twice. He repeated as an All-Star in 2023-24 but was ultimately limited to 46 games due to a shoulder injury that required surgery.
Randle joined a Timberwolves team in championship-or-bust mode after advancing to the 2024 NBA Western Conference Finals. Randle’s first season in Minneapolis saw averages of 18.7 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game while shooting 48.5 percent from the field and 34.4 percent from downtown. Fast forward to today, and Randle has more time to adjust to the Timberwolves and hopefully win an NBA Finals.
