Kawhi Leonard Dumbfounded by This Player’s Injury

The Ben Simmons Achilles injury news shocked the entire NBA landscape when ESPN’s Shams Charania posted it on X. It was reported that Simmons was injured during practice. As a result, he is set to miss the entire 2026-2027 season, which is truly an unfortunate circumstance for his planned comeback campaign.

While everyone knew what happened to Simmons, apparently Kawhi Leonard of the Toronto Raptors had no idea.

Kawhi Leonard Was Late To The Ben Simmons Injury News

Surrounded by multiple reporters, Kawhi Leonard was asked what he thought about Ben Simmons’ Achilles injury. He was taken aback by the question. His genuine reaction implied that he had no clue about what happened to the Kings guard/forward.

‘You’re saying he’s not playing this year? I didn’t know that. Aw damn man, that’s sad… If he locks in, 2026, you can come back from an Achilles injury. God bless him,’ Leonard said.

Kawhi found out about the Ben Simmons injury from the media:

“You’re saying he’s not playing this year? I didn’t know that. Aw damn man, that’s sad… If he locks in, 2026, you can come back from an Achilles injury. God bless him.”

It’s important to note that both Simmons and Leonard played together with the Los Angeles Clippers during the 2024-2025 season. That’s probably the reason why Leonard felt truly bad when he found out about Simmons’ latest setback.

Curiously, it’s still surprising that he had no clue about it. The news about it was everywhere. It was a topic that went viral on multiple social media platforms. Maybe Leonard just doesn’t pay attention to all that stuff outside him. After all, he had a very trying offseason before landing back with the Raptors.

While Ben Simmons has many detractors, he is still looked up to by many fans. But it’s reassuring that Leonard still believes that his former teammate’s dreams of playing again in the NBA aren’t over yet.

At just 30 years old, Simmons still has time to show what he can do next year. Maybe, just maybe, there’s a chance that he’ll get a chance to play alongside or against Kawhi Leonard again.
