The Philadelphia 76ers will retain a key rotation piece heading into 2025-26. Forward Kelly Oubre Jr. has officially opted into his $8.4 million player option.
This move keeps Oubre in Philadelphia for a third straight season. The decision adds stability to a team looking to rebound after a rough campaign marred by injuries.
The veteran swingman was one of the Sixers’ most consistent performers last season. He played in 60 games, starting in 57 of them and averaging 15.1 points per contest. Oubre also contributed across the board, posting 6.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.5 steals. Despite a late-season knee injury, he was one of the team’s few dependable options.
At 29 years old, Oubre has carved out a solid niche in the league. Originally drafted 15th overall in 2015, he has played for five different franchises. His journey includes stints with the Wizards, Suns, Warriors and Hornets. With Charlotte, he posted a career-best 20.3 points per game in 2022-23.
The Sixers ended last season with a disappointing 24-58 record. Injuries to Joel Embiid, Paul George and Tyrese Maxey derailed their playoff hopes early. In a chaotic year, Oubre remained a steady force on both ends of the floor. His return gives Philadelphia a known contributor as they aim to regroup.
With continuity now a priority, Oubre’s presence helps reinforce that plan. Philadelphia’s front office will likely build around their healthy core this offseason. Keeping Oubre also provides flexibility in rotations and lineup configurations. His return signals a positive step forward after a frustrating 2024-25 season.
