Kevin Durant passed 31,000 points on Friday night in a game against the Phoenix Suns. He continues to climb the all-time scoring rankings, which have boosted his reputation as one of the greatest scorers in NBA history.

During the Houston Rockets‘ game against the Phoenix Suns on Friday night, Kevin Durant became the eighth player in NBA history to score over 31,000 regular-season points. It was a fantastic achievement for the 37-year-old star, as he keeps proving he is one of the best offensive players in NBA history.

His recent achievement has led to a discussion about the NBA’s catalog of talented offensive players through the years and where Durant fits there. The two-time Finals MVP has earned his spot as one of the best of the 2000s, but some people might be opposed to that. Durant himself believes in his scoring being up there with the greats.

Former NBA champions Kendrick Perkins and Channing Frye disagree with people who are against Durant. They are big believers in Durant and his place as an all-time great scorer in the NBA.

Durant’s status as one of the greatest scorers ever

With his recent achievement, people’s belief in Durant’s legacy was even more confirmed. Durant is one of the most skilled scorers in NBA history because he can do it all. Every scout saw the raw talent during his lone college season at Texas. He was a natural scorer who can do it in the paint, in the mid-range area, and beyond the three-point line.

Since his rookie season, Durant has averaged over 20 points per game, which is an absurd achievement, considering he is playing in his 18th season. It looks like he is not stopping anytime soon, as he is right at home with the Rockets.

In a discussion about Durant’s legacy as a scorer, Richard Jefferson, Perkins and Frye discussed what Durant is as a scorer. Considering Perkins played with Durant and Frye had to guard the 2014 MVP, they can agree that Durant deserves the praise he gets for his scoring ability. Some people might even call Durant a better scorer when compared to his rival, LeBron James.

“KD, Jordan, Bron, and Kareem (is my Mount Rushmore). But if you’re building a player to score buckets, KD is essentially perfect. He’s a hooper, can go either way, seven-foot, is a guard, loves middies.

“He’s not afraid of the moment. Got one of the best off-the-dribble jumpers ever,” Frye said on Road Trippin’ about Durant’s legacy as an all-time great scorer.

“Mr. 50-40-90. The greatest scorer I’ve ever seen in my life is Kevin Durant,” Perkins followed up.

Durant can still improve on his scoring legacy

While Durant has been impressive for the past two decades, he is not stopping anytime soon. Most people might think that he is declining because he is 37, and father time is undefeated for the likes of Chris Paul and other older players. However, Durant is not the type of player to rely on his athleticism to keep dominating the league.

That is not the case for Durant because he only needs to take a few steps to score the ball. He is the most natural scorer in the NBA, and he can do it without needing elite athleticism and speed. With his dribbling, shot creation ability, and undeniable hunger to score, he could still average 25 points per game which he is doing this season.

Chris Paul isn’t ready to walk away from the game just yet!

Chris Paul tells the world he's going to be back…

“I’m just staying ready. I’m hooping right now. I don’t know what’s next. I’m still scarred by it all. Still processing everything. But I’m staying ready.”

Playing for the Rockets is also a big positive because he is working with some of the league’s best athletes, such as Amen Thompson and Tari Eason. If the game needs to speed up, they can take care of that, while Durant is tasked to score when needed.

As he ages, Durant’s play style does not falter. He has proven to be one of the greatest offensive players ever, and he will not be denied when it comes to living up to his billing as a top-tier scorer in NBA history.
