Kendrick Perkins breaks down why JJ Redick is to blame for LA Lakers defeat to the Warriors

Kendrick Perkins was not happy with the coaching he saw from JJ Redick in the LA Lakers’ season opener against the Warriors.

The Los Angeles Lakers were disappointing in their opening night fixture, losing to the Golden State Warriors in embarrassing fashion.

Despite Luka Doncic matching Shaquille O’Neal with his 43-point outing, the Lakers looked shambolic on the defensive end.

JJ Redick’s defensive plan to handle Jimmy Butler proved futile, as the former All-Star torched the Lakers with 31 points.

Redick also faced backlash for his use of Deandre Ayton, with many saying the center was ineffective. But the criticism for Redick has not stopped there.

Kendrick Perkins says JJ Redick didn’t prepare the LA Lakers for Warriors

Kendrick Perkins spoke on NBA today about the LA Lakers and their failure to perform against the Golden State Warriors.

Perkins believes JJ Redick got everything wrong, and didn’t do his best to maximize the players available to him, despite Luka Doncic stepping up and delivering.

“OK, you don’t have LeBron, but then that’s when JJ, you have to max out the guys that you have. Last night, I watched a team that looked unprepared.

“They didn’t look like they knew what they were doing offensively. The spacing was not correct. JJ, you’re gonna have to level up as well.

“You want your players, Marcus Smart, Austin Reaves, to elevate their game, even Luka, and he did that last night. But, JJ, on the sideline, it’s time for you to get deep in your bag.”

JJ Redick no longer has the excuse of lack of experience to fall back on

Last season, many of JJ Redick’s shortcomings could be overlooked, as he was a first-time head coach with zero experience at any level.

How someone with his lack of experience got the job was a question the Lakers’ front office had to answer. But much to everyone’s surprise, Redick did a solid job with the Lakers.

But now, he needs to show he can sustain that level. Redick admitted he missed LeBron James during moments of the game.

That cannot be the case, as he must learn to adapt when his players are out injured or just not available for whatever reason.
