The Orlando Magic have continued to make an impression this postseason, with their physical style and resilience shaping a competitive series against the Detroit Pistons.
Entering the series as the No. 8 seed in the East, the Magic established a clear identity built on effort and toughness. Despite a Game 5 loss, Orlando still holds a 3–2 series lead, putting much pressure on the top-seeded Pistons as the series shifts forward.
Paolo Banchero has emerged as the centerpiece of the Magic’s 2026 playoff success. He delivered a standout performance in Game 5, scoring 45 points and matching Detroit’s top output. His physical presence, emotional intensity, and leadership have helped define the tone of the series on both ends of the floor.
The Road Trippin’ Podcast shared comments from ESPN’s Kendrick Perkins on X, formerly Twitter, as he praised head coach Jamahl Mosley and Banchero for elevating the team’s competitiveness.
“Mosley went from the hot seat to a potential contract extension by making the Magic play with that grit. ”

“Jamahl Mosley went from being on the hot seat to, if he wins this playoff series, looking at a contract extension.”
Perkins said, adding:
“I’m looking at Paolo. He’s playing with that tenacity and emotion—yelling on and-ones, flexing. They’ve got it now.”
Perkins pointed to Mosley’s leadership as a driving force behind the team’s transformation. Earlier concerns about consistency have faded as Orlando has embraced a tougher, more cohesive style of play throughout the series.
Banchero’s continued growth has also stood out. His intensity has energized teammates and challenged opponents, reinforcing his role as the focal point of the Magic’s postseason push.
Although Game 5 did not go their way, the Magic remain in control of the series. With momentum still within reach, Orlando enters Game 6 in position to close out the Pistons and complete a statement upset.
