It looks like Kendrick Perkins thinks Anthony Edwards has some plans for the new NBA season that Minnesota Timberwolves fans don’t like.

The Minnesota Timberwolves will not have a different roster heading into the new season. After their second straight Western Conference Finals exit, the Timberwolves haven’t sought to tinker with their roster too much this offseason.

Anthony Edwards wasn’t surprised the Timberwolves lost to the OKC Thunder. But the team does want to improve on their performance from this year.

The Timberwolves only lost Nickeil Alexander-Walker to the Atlanta Hawks in free agency. However, they were able to keep hold of some key players.

The Timberwolves signed Julius Randle to a $100 million contract. And after months of speculation, Naz Reid put pen to paper on a $125 million contract.

With Anthony Edwards secured for the future, the Timberwolves have a strong roster. But the young star might disappoint fans if Kendrick Perkins’ prediction comes true.

Kendrick Perkins predicts Anthony Edwards trade request if Minnesota Timberwolves miss NBA Finals

Kendrick Perkins spoke on the Road Trippin’ podcast about the Minnesota Timberwolves ahead of the new NBA season.

He believes that if the Timberwolves miss out on the NBA Finals for the third year straight, Anthony Edwards will demand a trade the following offseason.

“If Anthony Edwards doesn’t reach the NBA Finals, he’s going to request a trade from Minnesota.

“What I’m saying is, Anthony Edwards has been to the Conference Finals two years in a row. If he doesn’t get to the Finals, he’s going to leave.”

So far, Anthony Edwards has made no such suggestion. He is happy in Minnesota. But if the front office struggle to build a solid team around him, Edwards may decide to take his talents elsewhere.

Anthony Edwards relying on younger stars stepping up

With the Timberwolves electing not to make many changes to their roster, they will have to look to their young players for something new.

Rob Dillingham’s Summer League performances give hope to Timberwolves fans who want him to develop into a starting-level guard.

Fellow second-year prospect Terrance Shannon Jr. has impressed Timberwolves executives. But they aren’t the only young players looking to make an impact.

Timberwolves rookie Joan Berringer impressed fans with his defense in Las Vegas. While second-round pick Rocco Zikarsky was called a diamond by Timberwolves GM Matt Lloyd.

These young rookies and sophomores have to be the difference-makers for the Timberwolves, who haven’t done much to upgrade their roster. The youth must be the upgrade for the team.
