The Phoenix Suns will look a lot different heading into the 2025-26 NBA season.

The Suns traded Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets and they bought out Bradley Beal.

After the Suns’ big three failed, they restructured their roster around Devin Booker, who remains the only player from the Suns’ team that made the 2021 NBA Finals.

This season, Booker will be joined by his new backcourt partner Jalen Green and defensive menace Dillon Brooks.

Kendrick Perkins wants Devin Booker to be in the same company as Anthony Edwards and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, ‘can he be that No. 1 option’

Booker has a lot of heavy lifting to do if he wants the Suns to be in playoff contention.

For the 2024-25 season, Booker averaged 25.6 points, 7.1 assists and 4.1 rebounds in 75 games, shooting 46.1 percent from the field and 33.2 percent from three-point range.

Those numbers are expected to go up with Booker carrying more of the offensive load this season.

Kendrick Perkins revealed on NBA Today that he wants to see Booker truly shine this year and wants the 28-year-old to be in the same conversation as some of the best players in the NBA.

“I’m looking at Devin Booker right now and I’m saying he’s on the clock and when I say on the clock it’s time for Devin Booker to show the world that he belongs.

“And when I say belong, belong in the company of an Anthony Edwards, belong in the company of a SGA [Shai Gilgeous-Alexander], can he be that guy that can be that No. 1 option of this Phoenix Suns franchise and I’m waiting to see it.

“Yes he went to the NBA Finals, three or four years ago, but he had CP3, he had DeAndre Ayton and now all of a sudden you lost a lot of coaches these last four years.

“You lost a lot of players, now I’m ready to see and it’s time for Devin Booker to prove that he belongs in that elite company”

Phoenix Suns enter the 2025-26 NBA season with low expectations

The Suns won’t have high expectations and won’t be in the media limelight this season.

However, this could be a season where Booker reasserts himself as one of the best shooting guards in the league.

The Suns are entering a new era with Booker. He once played a big role in the Suns becoming a contender and now he will have to do the same on a team that has low odds to make the playoffs.

The Suns will rely on Booker to facilitate their offense and take over in big moments. If he can lead the Suns back to the playoffs, he will certainly be regarded as one of the top players in the league.
