The Philadelphia 76ers have been warned to get their act together, or pay the price.
There is no getting away from the fact that the 2024-25 season was a total disaster for the Philadelphia 76ers.
This was reflected by their final record of 13th place, where they won just 24 games, having won 47 the previous year.
The lead in to 2025-26 has not been smooth either. Paul George has had to undergo surgery already on a knee injury suffered at practice.
Joel Embiid’s situation remains a total unknown too. He was able to play only 19 games last season due to various injuries.
Amid the focus on Paul George and Joel Embiid, ESPN analyst and former player Kendrick Perkins has warned the Philadelphia 76ers are ‘on the clock’ with Tyrese Maxey.
Maxey was a first round draft pick in 2020 and he has been improving every year. In the 2024-25 season he posted a career-high 26.3 points per game.
Perkins says that George and Embiid’s ongoing health problems put more pressure on Maxey, who won’t want to be stuck in franchise that is a mess.
“He’s telling us right now that his body is not right, which we already know. Paul George just underwent a procedure.
“Now you look at your next guy, a diamond in the rough that you found in Tyrese Maxey, and the Philadelphia 76s is on the clock.
“They’re on the clock when it comes down to Tyrese Maxey, and when I say on the clock, because if they keep trending in this direction of no culture and no stability, guess what, Tyrese Maxey is going to want out of Philadelphia.”
Kendrick Perkins warns that Tyrese Maxey is represented by Klutch Sports and Rich Paul, and warns that they will not stand for their client being stuck in a catastrophe of a situation.
He said: “We know who his agent is. It’s Rich Paul. And Rich Paul, don’t give a damn. I’m telling you this. This is something that I know.
“And so when you think about the 76ers and Daryl Morey, they got to get it together right now.”
Maxey signed a contract extension with the Philadelphia 76ers in 2024, but in the NBA, all that does is buy the franchise more time.
If a star player is disgruntled and unhappy with his situation, it becomes very different to repair, and Klutch have the know-how and connections to potentially force an exit.
