Kevin Durant Doubles Down on Controversial Comment After Jayson Tatum Injury

The Boston Celtics staved off elimination in the Eastern Conference Semifinals with a 127-102 win over the New York Knicks in Game 5 at TD Garden on Wednesday. The Celtics got that big win without Jayson Tatum, who ruptured his right Achilles tendon in their Game 4 loss.

The Celtics' dominance in Tatum's absence led to former NFL player Emmanuel Acho making a rather bold claim. Acho stated on FS1's "The Facility" that the Celtics match up better against the Knicks without Tatum, not because of talent, but mindset. Those comments did not go down too well with one Kevin Durant.

Durant ripped Acho for his comments regarding Tatum. The 36-year-old also stated that former NFL players should not be talking about basketball and told them to stay in their lane.

Those comments proved to be rather controversial, and Durant has been receiving some pushback for them. The 15-time All-Star isn't backing down, though, and has instead doubled down on that take.

"It’s not even that deep," Durant stated. "I just don’t believe the Celtics are better without Jayson Tatum, can they still win? Yes, they are a deep team, but I refuse to believe that adding Jayson Tatum to a basketball team is gonna hurt their chances of winning, and just don’t believe hockey players or football players understand what it’s like to be a professional hooper every day.

"Have any opinion u want, but I'm just lettin u know its a difference between actually living it and spectating, I don't care if u spectated for 40 years, u will never know. It's okay to gain knowledge and support the sport, u don’t have to be a part of the story too."

Durant isn't budging from his stance on this matter. The Phoenix Suns star is firmly in that camp that believes you need to have played the game of basketball to really understand its inner workings.
