Kevin Durant Explains Why He Has Great Chemistry With Stephen Curry

Former teammates Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant reunited during All-Star Weekend, as they were drafted to Shaq's OG's for the mini-tournament. The two connected instantly on the court and in his press conference after they won the tournament, Durant was asked if the chemistry with Curry comes right back when they team up.

"Oh yeah. It's just so easy to play with Steph," Durant said. "He doesn't demand the ball, he doesn't have a demanding personality. He just plays within the flow of the game and those are the types of players that are easy to play with."

Curry's personality and his game make him very easy to play with. The 36-year-old is willing to take a backseat if needed to his teammates and isn't the least bit ball-dominant either. Curry, who is averaging 23.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, 6.1 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game in 2024-25, is the kind of player every star would love to play alongside and Durant certainly enjoyed that experience.

Durant joined Curry's Golden State Warriors in 2016 and turned them into an unstoppable superteam. The Warriors won back-to-back titles in 2017 and 2018 with the two stars leading the way and would have three-peated if not for injuries.

Durant missed the first four games of the 2019 NBA Finals against the Toronto Raptors and then tore his Achilles when he returned in Game 5. It would prove to be his last game with the Warriors, as he left for the Brooklyn Nets in free agency.

There had been rumblings about Durant returning to the Warriors in the following years but it was never a real possibility until 2025. The team wanted to bring him back at the February deadline but the Phoenix Suns star had no interest in returning.

Durant reportedly shut down a blockbuster trade that would have sent him to the Warriors. Curry even tried to convince him but the 15-time All-Star did not want to go back. The reason for this is unclear but you'd imagine he isn't all too keen on playing with Draymond Green again, even with the two having mended fences.

So, it's safe to say, that the last time we'd have seen Curry and Durant as teammates in a competitive setup would have been at the 2024 Paris Olympics. They both excelled at the grand event and helped Team USA win the gold medal yet again.

Kevin Durant Still Feels The Love From Warriors Fans

The 2025 All-Star Game was, of course, held in the San Francisco Bay Area and Durant got a great reception from the fans. While some were surprised by that, the man himself was not. After the game, Durant showed a lot of love to the Warriors fans.

“I always feel the love from the fans in the Bay Area. Never thought for a second that I ain’t get no love out here. And I heard people saying that I might not feel that love and I might not know it was this much love, but everywhere I go all around the world, countries have Warriors fans."

"And they always showed me love. Of course, I heard [the cheers]. Especially Oracle, that’s my home. We had a lot of great memories in the Bay Area so we have a tight relationship, the fans and myself.”

While Durant's departure and his rejecting a return at the deadline would have stung, the fact is he still won the Warriors two titles. It's great to see the fans acknowledge that and give him the kind of reception he deserves. Durant will have his jersey retired by the Warriors someday too and it will be a special occasion.
