Kevin Durant Reveals Bold Message After Joining Rockets
Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

In a blockbuster move that immediately reshaped the NBA landscape, Kevin Durant was traded from the Phoenix Suns to the Houston Rockets this past weekend.

The deal sends Durant, one of the game’s most prolific scorers, to a Rockets squad fresh off a breakthrough season.

In exchange, the Suns received Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 pick in the 2025 draft and five second-round selections.

Following the trade, Durant delivered a bold statement on his Instagram story on Wednesday.

Durant posted with the message. "Anyone else would retire, but I’m not content. I wanna bury these [expletive]’s like 20 feet down. So no one can find them again," borrowing Drake's line from Smiley's 2021 single "Over the Top."

Over an 18-year career, Durant has compiled two NBA titles, two Finals MVP titles, four scoring titles, a Rookie of the Year award and a regular season MVP.

He's also a 15-time All-Star, a nine-time All-NBA honoree, a four-time Olympic Gold Medalist, an Olympics MVP and earned a spot on the NBA 75th Anniversary Team.

In the 2024-25 season, Houston finished with a franchise-best 52-30 record, capturing the Southwest Division and landing the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference.

This marked their first divisional title since 2020 and a massive turnaround from just two years earlier, when they won only 22 games.

Despite a hard-fought seven-game loss to the Golden State Warriors in the first round, the Rockets demonstrated significant improvement under head coach Ime Udoka.

Durant’s arrival immediately vaults Houston into true win-now territory as one of the top contenders for the 2026 title.
