Kevin Durant came to Trae Young’s defense when Patrick Beverley made some negative comments about him.
Trae Young is a superstar who often divides opinion. Some fans and analysts think he isn’t a star-level player, while others believe him to be a lethal and clutch scorer.
The Atlanta Hawks guard has had an interesting few years. After he led the Hawks to the 2021 Eastern Conference Finals, the Hawks have struggled to break into the playoff picture.
This offseason, the Hawks have massively revamped their roster in an effort to try and compete and give Young the tools he needs.
The Hawks are looking to impress Young to re-sign him. Well, a good way to make sure he’s not unhappy is by doing their best to disavow what Patrick Beverley recently said about him.
Patrick Beverley went on an unprompted rant against Trae Young. He slammed the star for his lack of playoff success, and doesn’t believe he can say anything to him in response.
“I don’t think he’s won enough to even speak to me… He’s been to the playoffs three times. I’ve been to the playoffs nine times. My first seven years, I didn’t miss the playoffs at all.
“I’ve talked to people who played in Atlanta. They don’t wanna play there. Why? They don’t think he’s a good leader. They don’t think he’s a good teammate…
“You can make all the money you want. You can have all the leading assists you want. You can do all that. If you don’t win, that s— won’t matter. If you don’t win, when you retire, they’re gonna forget your name.”
Kevin Durant immediately responded to Beverley’s comments, telling him that he was being ‘delusional’ and that he needed to stop.
“Aye. This s— (is) getting outta hand, man. C’mon, Pat, you sound delusional, brother.”

Kevin Durant wasn’t the only one to push back on Patrick Beverley’s claims. Trae Young also came back at Beverley to remind him of the gap between the two of them.
“I win play-in games on the road, and I’m ready to get to the playoffs. You win play-in games at home and you standing on the scores table acting like it’s a championship.

“I know you were labeled as a tough defender, a great defender, and the accolades say that you were. But I promise you, anytime you was on the court with me, I was never scared of you. I was never scared of Patty Bev.”
Trae Young has every right to push back on the comments made by Beverley. In fact, this isn’t the first time this summer that he has had to defend himself.
Young slammed Iman Shumpert for criticizing him last month. Despite being one of the defining stars of his generation, Young is consistently underestimated by his peers.
Expect him to come back with a vengeance next season and prove people wrong.
