Kevin Durant: You Can See Why LeBron James Is Considered The Best Player To Ever Play
Candice Ward-USA TODAY Sports

Kevin Durant recently spoke highly of LeBron James during an appearance on the 'Today Show,' where he highlighted what sets LeBron apart as the greatest player in NBA history. Durant emphasized LeBron's unmatched passion for the game, saying:

"It's just the enthusiasm and the energy he has for the game is just contagious. And the more you're around him as a teammate, you can see why he's considered the best player to ever play."

This praise comes as the two superstars prepare to team up once again for Team USA in the upcoming Paris Olympics. It marks a significant reunion, as the last time Durant and LeBron played together was during the 2012 London Olympics, where they helped lead Team USA to a gold medal. For LeBron, this is a monumental return to international play after a 12-year hiatus.

Durant, on the other hand, has been a constant presence for Team USA over the years. He played pivotal roles in the 2016 Rio Olympics and the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, securing gold medals in both tournaments. Now, Durant is on the verge of making history by potentially becoming the first U.S. men's basketball player to win four Olympic gold medals.

The dynamic between LeBron and Durant is particularly intriguing given their storied careers and mutual respect. Durant's acknowledgment of LeBron's infectious energy and dedication underscores the unique qualities that have cemented LeBron's legacy. As Durant noted, being around LeBron provides insight into why he is often regarded as the greatest to ever play the game.

Their partnership on Team USA is not just a reunion but a significant opportunity for both players to further solidify their legacies on the international stage. LeBron's return, coupled with Durant's quest for a fourth gold medal, adds an extra layer of excitement and anticipation for basketball fans worldwide.

The blend of LeBron's leadership and Durant's scoring prowess makes Team USA a formidable contender, as they aim to maintain their dominance in the sport and inspire the next generation of players.

LeBron James Confirms This Is His Last Olympics Run

LeBron James has confirmed that the 2024 Paris Olympics will be his final appearance with Team USA. In an interview with Craig Melvin of NBC's Today, James firmly stated that he would not be competing in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, humorously noting that he plans to leave the city when the Olympics come to Los Angeles.

"No, I won't be there. I'm getting the hell out of that city when the Olympics come to Los Angeles. All right, I'll live there all year. I will not be in Los Angeles in '28. I'm getting out of there."

At 39, LeBron is already the oldest player to suit up for Team USA, surpassing the previous record held by Reggie Miller, who played at 37 in the 2002 FIBA World Cup. His presence in Paris will mark his third Olympic appearance, having previously competed in 2004, 2008, and 2012, with gold medals in the latter two.

James' decision underscores the reality that his illustrious career is nearing its end. Although he recently signed a two-year, $101.4 million contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers, including a player option for the 2025-26 season, he acknowledges that his time in the NBA is limited. He mentioned that he doesn't plan to play for many more years and that his retirement is approaching.

LeBron's exit from Olympic competition signals the end of an era. His impact on international basketball has been profound, and his leadership on Team USA has been a significant part of his legacy. As he prepares for what is likely his last Olympic run, fans and teammates alike are reminded of his contributions to the sport.

As Team USA heads to Abu Dhabi for their next set of exhibition games before the Olympics, the focus will be on how this star-studded team, led by LeBron, will fare on the international stage. James' declaration about the 2028 Olympics not only marks a turning point in his career but also sets the stage for a memorable and potentially golden farewell in Paris.
