Kevin Durant's Preferred Team Reportedly Taking 'Conservative' Approach in Trade Pursuit

Kevin Durant wants the Phoenix Suns to trade him to the Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs or Miami Heat.

The Suns are expected to trade Durant before the 2025 NBA Draft, but there is no guarantee they will send the future Hall of Famer to Houston, San Antonio or Miami.

Durant, 36, doesn't have a no-trade clause in his contract, so he can't control where the Suns trade him. The four-time scoring champion turns 37 in the fall. He has one year left on his contract.

The Minnesota Timberwolves are interested in trading for Durant, but according to Sam Amick and Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic, the Timberwolves "were made aware" that Durant wants to play for the Spurs.

San Antonio, though, has been "conservative" in its pursuit of Durant.

A top 75 player of all time, Durant showed this season that he's still one of the best players in the NBA. The Texas product averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists in 62 starts while shooting 52.7% from the field, 43.0% from beyond the arc and 83.9% from the free-throw line.

The Spurs haven't made the playoffs since 2019, but they have the second overall pick in this year's draft, the 2025 Rookie of the Year in Stephon Castle and All-Stars De'Aaron Fox and Victor Wembanyama.

The eighth leading scorer of all time, Durant has played for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Golden State Warriors, Brooklyn Nets and Suns. He's a two-time champion and a two-time Finals MVP.

KD also won the 2014 MVP Award with the Thunder.

It will be fascinating to see if the Spurs trade for Durant, who hasn't gotten back to the NBA Finals since leaving the Warriors in 2019.
