The NBA offseason started off with a blockbuster trade as the Phoenix Suns sent Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets after weeks of trade talks with multiple teams.
In the trade, the Suns sent Durant to the Rockets for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 pick in the 2025 draft and five second-round picks.

Of course, Durant got his wish as the Rockets were named one of his preferred landing spots in a potential trade, though there were many other teams involved in landing the future Hall of Fame forward.
One team that was not involved in trade talks for Durant this offseason was the Golden State Warriors, though they did show interest in acquiring him at last season’s trade deadline.
Durant spent three seasons in Golden State after leaving the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2016 offseason where he helped the franchise win two championships alongside their core of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green.
Despite Durant’s success with the Warriors, he reportedly had a clear stance on a potential reunion with his former squad.
According to The Ringer’s Logan Murdock, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr was one of the reasons Durant was not interested in returning to Golden State.
“Durant’s exit from the Bay Area arguably had more to do with his issues with Steve Kerr than any shouting match with Green. Durant repeatedly complained both publicly and privately about Kerr’s offensive principles during his final season with the Warriors, and he continued to do so even after he left for Brooklyn,” Murdock wrote. “The two have since reconciled, but league sources identify Kerr as among the reasons Durant opted not to return to Golden State at the trade deadline.”

This is a major report by Murdock but one that is not a total surprise as Durant and Kerr had their differences during his three seasons in The Bay.
Of course, Durant also clashed with Green during his final season in Golden State but it is clear that Kerr was the main reason he did not want to return to the Warriors via trade and he will now join the Rockets as he tries to help them compete for a title next season.
