Kevon Looney Will Be Missed By Warriors

Three-time NBA Champion Kevon Looney is headed to the Big Easy.

On Monday evening, Looney reportedly agreed to a two-year deal with the New Orleans Pelicans. He will be reunited with former Warrior and fellow Milwaukee native Jordan Poole.

Looney was a key contributor to three of the Warriors’ titles despite never averaging more than seven points a game. Dub Nation got to watch the 29-year-old develop into an integral part of the Warriors’ championship runs. Through the highs and lows, Looney was always a constant.

Kevon Looney’s Playoff Performances

Warriors fans will never forget his 11-point, 21-rebound double-double in the Warriors’ do-or-die Game 7 at Sacramento. Or his 22 rebounds in the Game 6 clincher of their 2022 playoff series with the Grizzlies. His stats didn’t always jump off the page, but his undeniable chemistry with Stephen Curry and ability to adjust in any situation Steve Kerr put him in made him an ideal fit with the Dubs.

Kerr tended to change lineups throughout the year, which often came at the expense of Looney’s playing time, yet the 10-year veteran never pouted or complained. Looney never cared if he got the shine. On a team that has boasted several Hall of Famers and All-Stars, this unselfishness was crucial, sometimes even underrated.

Looney was a beloved figure among the Warriors organization. His steady locker room presence helped the Warriors navigate everything from the infamous Kevin Durant-Draymond Green incident to the Jordan Poole punch. He was so much trusted that Stephen Curry and Draymond Green lobbied for him to start that pivotal Game 6 versus the Grizzlies after having been benched.

Time to Move On

Steph Curry and Draymond Green will play without Looney for the first time in a decade. This loss will sting, especially for those two. But no matter which jersey Kevon Looney puts on, he will forever be a champion and will forever be a Warrior.
