Milwaukee Bucks fans made sure to show former Buck Khris Middleton all the love on Wednesday, when the Washington Wizards visited Fiserv Forum. The Bucks played a video tribute for Middleton, and the fans inside the building gave him standing ovations.
Middleton had spent over a decade with Milwaukee before the team traded him to the Wizards ahead of last February’s deadline.
It wasn’t exactly a popular move by the Bucks’ front office, as Middleton was a cherished member of the team by his fans during his time in Milwaukee. Nevertheless, Bucks fans clearly still love Middleton, who paced the Wizards with 23 points on 9-for-14 shooting with six rebounds and three assists in a 133-120 loss to Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks.
It was indeed an emotional night for Middleton, as he was finally back again, even for at least a game, in his old stomping grounds. Milwaukee holds a special place in his heart, as he spent nearly 12 full seasons with the team. He was also a crucial figure in Milwaukee’s memorable championship run in 2021.
Middleton shared his feelings about the evening, while also not forgetting that his Wizards lost, which was about the only thing that sullied his experience in his return to Milwaukee.
“It was a lot. Since I saw the schedule and saw it was the first game…this night was going through my mind. It was almost the perfect night, if we would have got the win, but to get that type of recognition, appreciation from the city, the organization, that meant the world to me,” Middleton said after the game, per Eric Nehm of The Athletic.
“Thankfully I didn’t cry, but I heard some of my family members cried and friends cried and whatnot and that means a lot to me that they all felt a part of this and they all felt like they were back at home.”
Middleton will see more of the Bucks this season, with two more meetings between Milwaukee and the Wizards scheduled, including another at Fiserv Forum in December.
