The Kings are not done working the phones.
After acquiring De’Andre Hunter in a deal with the Cavaliers, Sacramento remains active, per Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints. That includes exploring trade scenarios involving Malik Monk, DeMar DeRozan, and Domantas Sabonis.
While DeRozan and Sabonis are unlikely to be moved before Thursday’s deadline, there has been at least one notable inquiry on the latter.
That would be the Raptors, who have emerged as a potential suitor for Sabonis, per multiple sources and reports. Toronto has been dealing with ongoing back issues for Jakob Poeltl, prompting internal discussions about adding frontcourt stability.
The Raptors had previously cooled on the idea of pursuing Anthony Davis, but Sabonis is viewed as a cleaner fit from both a basketball and transactional standpoint.
Part of the appeal is flexibility. Sacramento had interest in RJ Barrett, which could help anchor a larger construction if talks were to progress. But the Barrett interest may have cooled after the acquisition of Hunter.
Monk remains another lever. His contract could be useful in facilitating multi-team deals. The Timberwolves have registered exploratory interest.
Regardless of how aggressive Sacramento gets this week, one move appears imminent. The Kings are expected to convert Dylan Cardwell from his two-way contract to a standard deal once the deadline passes.
So yes, the Kings are calling and listening. How far they go remains to be seen.
