The Sacramento Kings made the playoffs in 2023 for the first time since 2006. Although the Kings lost to the Golden State Warriors in the first round of the 2023 postseason in seven games, it appeared the franchise had a bright future.

However, Sacramento missed the playoffs last season and this season.

Mike Brown was fired as head coach, and All-Star point guard De'Aaron Fox was traded to the San Antonio Spurs this season.

The Kings acquired Zach LaVine from the Chicago Bulls as part of the Fox trade. LaVine, DeMar DeRozan and Domantas Sabonis lost to the Dallas Mavericks in the 9-10 play-in game at home, ending Sacramento's season.

With Fox in San Antonio, the Kings need a lead guard to run the show, and they are a leading suitor for a player who has played with NBA legend LeBron James twice on the Los Angeles Lakers.

According to Marc Stein and Jake Fischer of The Stein Line, the Kings are seen as a leading suitor for veteran Dennis Schroder, who is an unrestricted free agent. He played for the Brooklyn Nets, Warriors and Detroit Pistons this season.

With Stein and Fischer's reporting in mind, Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report predicts that the Kings will sign Schroder to a two-year, $28 million deal.

Schroder averaged 13.1 points, 2.6 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game this season with the Nets, Warriors and Pistons in 75 games. He shot 40.6% from the field, 34.2% from beyond the arc and 83.8% from the free-throw line.

Schroder, who turns 32 in the fall, has played for the Atlanta Hawks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Los Angeles Lakers (twice), Boston Celtics, Houston Rockets, Toronto Raptors, Brooklyn Nets, Golden State Warriors and Detroit Pistons. He has career averages of 13.9 points and 4.9 assists per game.
