The Sacramento Kings have started to turn their season around after their poor start, but they are still expected to make some moves ahead of the Feb. 6 NBA trade deadline.
After a poor start to the season, the Kings decided to fire head coach Mike Brown in late December. Since his firing, they have gone 6-1 and have looked like a completely different team under interim head coach Doug Christie.
Sacramento now sits ninth in the Western Conference standings with a 19-19 record after finding themselves outside of the playoff picture earlier in the week. They have won six consecutive games, including taking down the reigning champion Boston Celtics on Friday night.
While the Kings have turned their season around, they do still have some areas of their roster that they need to improve to make a deep playoff run. Their star trio of Domantas Sabonis, De’Aaron Fox and DeMar DeRozan have been great this season, but their lack of both wing and frontcourt depth have been a major issue.
Because of this, they are expected to be active in the trade market to fill some of the holes in their roster. They have been linked to many players such as Cameron Johnson and Kyle Kuzma, but a recent report has mentioned that they could also have interest in a Charlotte Hornets center.
According to Forbes’ Evan Sidery, the Kings are one of the teams expressing interest in trading for Hornets’ center Nick Richards. Sidery also mentioned that the Hornets are open to moving some of their veterans for future draft capital.
With Sidery’s report, the Kings could look to trade for Richards. So far this season the 27-year-old is averaging 9.2 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game while shooting 56.4% from the field.
Trading for Richards would be risky due to his injury history. He has never played more than 67 games in a season, but since he should be able to be acquired for cheap, the Kings could take the risk to help upgrade their backup center position.
