Domantas Sabonis was not on the court on Wednesday night as the Sacramento Kings suffered their seventh straight loss. The Kings simply could not keep up with the Oklahoma City Thunder, as reigning NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the defending champions to a convincing 113-99 victory with 33 points on 12-of-24 shooting, eight rebounds, three assists, two steals and one triple in 36 minutes of action.

Sabonis sat out against the Thunder due to a knee issue, which has now put his status for Thursday’s contest against the Memphis Grizzlies in jeopardy. The Kings are already struggling badly this season, and the absence of their superstar big man will make things even more difficult for them on Thursday night.

Is Domantas Sabonis Playing Tonight?

Sabonis is now in his 10th season in the NBA, and his fifth with the Kings. In 2023, Sabonis signed a four-year extension with Sacramento worth $195 million. The new deal will keep him with the Kings through 2028.

In 11 games played this season, the three-time All-Star has produced averages of 17.2 points on 51.0% shooting, 12.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.2 steals in 33.2 minutes per contest.

Sabonis is currently dealing with a knee injury that kept him out of Wednesday’s game against OKC. He is now set to miss a second straight contest after the Kings announced via the official injury report that the 29-year-old has been ruled out due to soreness in his left knee.

Sabonis' next chance to play would be on Saturday against the Denver Nuggets. In the meantime, Drew Eubanks and Precious Achiuwa could see an uptick in their usage rate as Sabonis sits out.

As for the Grizzlies, they will be without Ja Morant as the two-time All-Star continues to recover from a calf strain. Jaren Jackson Jr. remains doubtful with a right ankle sprain.

The Kings enter Thursday’s contest with a 3-12 record. They are 14th in the Western Conference and are just one win ahead of the last-placed New Orleans Pelicans.
