The Sacramento Kings have made multiple additions to their roster this offseason as they look to make a run at a playoff spot in the loaded Western Conference next season.
Of course, many around the NBA believed that the Kings would begin a rebuild this offseason after trading De’Aaron Fox last season but Sacramento has instead kept their core of Domantas Sabonis, DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine together.
They also added Nique Clifford and Maxime Raynaud in the 2025 draft and signed Dennis Schroder in free agenc y who will enter next season as their new starting point guard.
While the Kings have made many moves this summer, they could also look to make more before the new season starts as they have been linked to Russell Westbrook and Jonathan Kuminga.
FanSided’s Luke Duffy also recently urged the Kings’ West rival in the Phoenix Suns to pursue Devin Carter via trade which could result in Sacramento adding another key player to their roster while also freeing up space in their backcourt.
“Not that Carter is the answer either, but there's some clear upside there. He can do a little bit of everything and he wouldn't cost a lot either. Nick Richards is a player the Suns are rumored to have offered up as part of a potential Jonathan K uminga deal, although we know that went nowhere,” Duffy wrote.
Duffy is urging the Suns to pursue Carter due to his upside and he even laid the foundation for a potential mock trade that would see Phoenix send Richards to Sacramento, which would be a solid addition for the Kings after they traded Jonas Valanciunas earlier this summer.
Despite this, the Kings may also want to hold onto Carter as the 23-year-old guard did show flashes last season and during the Las Vegas Summer League this offseason.
Of course, Carter did struggle at times during his rookie season but he proved to be a great defender and if he is able to improve his shooting numbers and court vision, he could eventually become the Kings’ next starting point guard.
While that may be the case, the Kings have an abundance of guards on their roster entering next season which may allow the Suns or another team to make a trade for Carter.
