Klay Thompson Reveals Potential Plan After NBA Retirement

Klay Thompson has been in the NBA since 2011, when he was the 11th overall pick in the draft. As he starts another season, he is already starting to think about the end of his career and what could come after.

The current Dallas Mavericks shooting guard was asked about potential plans following retirement, and most specifically about the 'BIG3' league, where Ice Cube is looking to grow.

Thompson said he would "absolutely" consider playing in the league following his retirement. He had several reasons to be interested in the league, especially with his ability to knock down the outside shot.

In an interview with Michael Cooper, Thompson was asked:

“When you retire, would you consider coming and playing in the BIG3?”

Thompson had a very blunt response, and he seemed sure he was down for the challenge:

“Absolutely, especially with that four-point ball. That gets me excited. I want the BIG3 to go international. You know that would be so fun to see the BIG3 go overseas and do a little tour."

Thompson continued about what he would like to see out of the league:

"I would love that, Europe and Asia. We would love that, and we know how pop, believe it or not. Three-on-three basketball is played more around the globe than five-on-five. The opportunity for growth with the league is incredible. So, big shout out to Cube and all you guys for this incredible league, it’s awesome.”

Thompson is a four-time NBA Champion and five-time NBA All-Star. He finished his first season with Dallas playing in 72 of the 82 regular-season games. This came after 11 seasons with the Golden State Warriors, playing alongside Steph Curry and Draymond Green.

His best season came in 2016-17 when he averaged 22.3 points per game. This was his third of seven straight seasons averaging 20+ points per season. Thompson has played in 158 playoff games in his career, averaging 19.2 points per game.
