It’s been two years since Klay Thompson split with the Golden State Warriors.
Klay Thompson left the Golden State Warriors in July 2024 to join the Dallas Mavericks on a three-year, $50 million deal.
This ended a legendary 13-season run he had with the Warriors, which saw him win 4 NBA titles.
However, his departure didn’t come as a surprise given Thompson’s frustration with the Warriors over his contract in his final campaign.
Two years after Thompson’s split with the Warriors, there is some buzz that he could return to Golden State to finish out his NBA career.
A new report from ESPN’s Anthony Slater and Tim MacMahon detailed the Thompson situation, as he felt like he was being “pushed out” of the organization.
Slater and MacMahon also added some interesting intel about the possibility of Thompson returning to the Warriors and reuniting with Stephen Curry.
“Those around Thompson say they believe it could eventually happen because ‘there’s no one that carries more weight with Klay than Steph,’ one league source said.
“But [Stephen] Curry would have to push for it.”
Since his departure from the Warriors, Thompson hasn’t found the same success on the Dallas Mavericks, who missed the playoffs last season and who are 10-17 to begin this season.
When Thompson joined the Mavericks they still had Luka Doncic and were a perennial championship contender.
Now, the Mavericks are reportedly expected to explore trade options for Thompson near the deadline.
Thompson is currently owed $17 million next season, which could make it difficult for the Mavericks to move him.
