The New York Knicks are entering Wednesday’s matchup with the Toronto Raptors looking to win a fourth consecutive game.
While the team has been inconsistent at times this season, they are beginning to regain their rhythm as they try to stay near the top of the Eastern Conference.
Despite the ups and downs, point guard Jalen Brunson has continued to play at an MVP level for New York. The 29‑year‑old left‑handed sharpshooter has averaged 28.0 points, 3.2 rebounds and 6.0 assists while shooting 47.8% from the field and 38.7% from beyond the arc across 41 games.
His success stems from his elite footwork, his ability to create separation in tight spaces and his consistent command of the offense, which allows him to control tempo and generate efficient looks for himself and his teammates.
As tip-off approaches for Wednesday’s game against Toronto, the Knicks may be entering the night shorthanded.
Josh Hart has been listed as questionable, while Miles McBride and Mitchell Robinson are not expected to suit up against a tough Eastern Conference opponent.
An even bigger development emerged just hours before game-time when Brunson was added to the injury report as questionable due to an illness, according to Stefan Bondy of the New York Post.
Winning without him would be especially difficult given how much of the offense flows through his hands.
Jalen Brunson has been downgraded to QUESTIONABLE with an illness.

Knicks already without Miles McBride and Mitchell Robinson.
Josh Hart is questionable.
Fortunately for New York, it appears Brunson is dealing only with an illness and not a physical setback.
His absence would still be felt, particularly as the Knicks evaluate their roster with the trade deadline approaching, but the team can at least take comfort in knowing his right ankle is not the issue this time.
Brunson has battled recurring ankle problems throughout the season, so avoiding another flare‑up is a positive sign.
Brunson remains the most important player on the roster, and his continued rise has been central to New York’s success.
He is a two‑time All‑Star and two‑time All‑NBA selection, and he has made it clear that his focus is on bringing an NBA championship back to the city. His availability will continue to shape how far the Knicks can go in 2026.
