The New York Knicks will need to evaluate the roster this summer and determine what changes need to be made. After falling short of a trip to the NBA Finals, they need to figure out the best possible moves to make the team better in order to reach the next step.
Bench depth is one of the things they need to prioritize. They averaged the fewest amount of bench points per game in the regular season with just 21.7, and never had a true scorer coming off the bench in the second unit.
Bleacher Report’s Zack Buckley suggested that the Knicks pursue Boston Celtics’ sharpshooter Sam Hauser to round out some bench depth.
“He has already contributed to a championship run, serving as a full-time rotation regular for Boston’s 2024 title team. He could help New York increase its three-point volume while also holding his own as a serviceable team defender (especially when surrounded by impact stoppers),” Buckley wrote.
Hauser would help solve a lot of the bench scoring issues for New York. This past season with the Celtics, he averaged 8.5 points and shot 41.6% from three-point range in 71 games.
For his career, he shoots a blistering 42% clip from beyond the arc. The Knicks traded away their most willing sharpshooter in Donte DiVincenzo to acquire Karl-Anthony Towns last offseason, but they never properly replaced the shooting production he provided in the backcourt.
Hauser would be a cheap trade option who would truly enhance their depth. The shooting prowess he has would greatly improve the Knicks’ offense, and he would also provide some size for the defensive side, being that he is 6-8.
