With the New York Knicks losing nine of their last 11 games, frustration has started to boil not just among their players but also their fanbase. Many Knicks fans have now blamed their head coach, Mike Brown, for their woes.
This is Brown’s first tenure with the Knicks. The veteran tactician replaced the popular Tom Thibodeau in the offseason. The 55-year-old has been in various coaching capacities within the NBA since 1997. However, one particular incident has drawn the Knicks players and fans’ ire amidst their team’s struggles. After the Knicks’ game against the Warriors, Mike Brown and Draymond Green hugged on the sidelines.
“From what I understand, that didn’t land well with a lot of folks there in New York. People not happy with Mike Brown after Warriors game when Draymond tripped KAT,” according to a report from Ramona Shelburne.

For additional context, during that particular game, Draymond Green made a dirty play towards Karl-Anthony Towns. The refs even reviewed the play, calling it excessive contact. Sure, Brown and Green had history as the former was an associate head coach for the Golden State Warriors from 2016 to 2022.
Truth be told, the friendly gesture between Mike Brown and Draymond wouldn’t be scrutinized if the Knicks weren’t playing badly.
As a coach who’s spent most of his adult years around NBA teams, Brown certainly knows the ins and outs of the business side of things. But at the end of the day, he’s still human with real emotions.
Just a week ago, after the buzzer sounded between the Knicks-Kings game, Mike Brown immediately left the court without interacting with many of Sacramento’s coaches and players. He spent two-plus seasons with the franchise.
Despite winning the NBA’s Head Coach of the Year award in 2023, he was unceremoniously fired late in 2024 by the Sacramento Kings after a slow start.
