The New York Knicks pulled off their second consecutive win in Game 2 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series against the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday.
Even though it wasn't a total blowout win as it was in Game 1, the Knicks were still victorious, 108-102. Jalen Brunson had another strong night, recording 26 points, six assists, one rebound and one steal in 41 minutes of playing time. OG Anunoby clocked 24 points, five rebounds, four steals and one block in 37 minutes on the court, but Anunoby's playing time was cut short due to an injury.
Anunoby left the game with 2:31 remaining and didn't come back. He also wasn't spotted on the bench or in the locker room after the victory.
After the game, both Brunson and Knicks head coach Mike Brown were asked about the injury.
"It looked like he was hopping, but I don't know anything," Brown said, according to Sports Illustrated. "They haven't told me. I just know he left the game. Nobody said he was back. I haven't talked to anybody yet."
"I'll cross that bridge when we get to it. I don't know too much," Brunson added when asked how it would impact the team.
"We'll see what it is, but next man up. That's really it," Mikal Bridges chimed in on the injury.
So, what will the Knicks do if Anunoby can't play? Brian Giuffra of Sports Illustrated notes that "without Anunoby, expect the Knicks to start Deuce McBride or Robinson, who was a late scratch from Game 2 with what the Knicks called an illness. Presumably, Robinson will be able to play in Game 3."
Either way, McBride will be coming off the bench, and other players will have an opportunity to take the court and help as well. Injuries are never a good sign during playoff action, but hopefully Anunoby's is minor, and he'll be able to return to the team soon.
There's no additional information at this time on his injury status, but it will become clearer as Game 3 rolls around. The Knicks and 76ers go up against each other again for Game 3 on Friday.
