The NBA offseason is right around the corner and trade rumors are running wild as many expect this offseason to be full of moves.
One player rumors have been centered around is New York Knicks star Karl-Anthony Towns after he underperformed in the playoffs, especially on the defensive end.
Because of this, there has been speculation that New York could move on from Towns this summer despite putting together a great first year with the Knicks.
Bleacher Report’s Dan Favale recently made a wild four-team trade that would see the Knicks move on from Towns and also acquire a star forward from the Phoenix Suns.
In the trade, Favale has the Knicks acquiring Kevin Durant while they would send Towns to the New Orleans Pelicans.
For the Suns, they would receive Dejounte Murray, Yves Missi, Kelly Olynyk and five first-round picks while the Washington Wizards would acquire P.J. Tucker and a 2027 first-round pick swap via New Orleans.
This is a wild mock trade put together by Favale and one that does not make too much sense for New York as they would basically be swapping Towns for Durant.
Of course, Towns played well in his first season in New York and while he did struggle in the playoffs, swapping him basically straight up for an aging Durant may not be in the Knicks’ best interest.
Despite this, Durant would give the Knicks another elite scorer next to Jalen Brunson, though he is in the latter part of his career while Towns is still only 29-years-old.
Because of this, the Knicks would likely hold off on making this move as they could elect to run it back with their current core and just focus on upgrading their bench this summer to try and make another deep playoff run next season.
